Bangalore

Once a small fortress, overshadowed by its larger neighbouring city Mysore, Bangalore has since developed into one of the most important cities in India. It was an important strategic centre under the British Raj who built public parks, municipal buildings and transport links, and Bangalore continued to flourish after Independence, when it was at the heart of the economic boom in India. Now a city of great significance within both cultural and economic worlds, it is an exciting, diverse and fascinating place to discover.

Take a walk through botanical gardens such as Lal Bagh, which encircle a tower built by the founder of Bangalore in the sixteenth century. Visit the imposing and grand architecture of government building Vidhana Soudha, or Bangalore Palace, a smaller version of Windsor Castle in England, or perhaps the stunning and intricate architecture of Tipu’s Summer Palace, now an important museum. The historic Bull Temple is also impressive, home to a huge granite monolith of Nandi.

Because of its place in the economy it attracts a large number of settlers, making its population diverse, reflected in the attitudes, the cuisine and the entertainment of the city. A famous centre of dance and theatre, it has many recitals throughout the year. A prodigious film industry also puts it on the map, and its energetic nightlife has also earned the city the reputation as the Pub Capital on India. Bangalore is also home to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a major sporting venue and which hosts a number of exciting sporting events throughout the year.

Bangalore is a fantastically exciting city, adhering to tradition yet embracing the twenty first century. It is an important destination for traveller, tourist and businessman.
